Proxmox Virtual Environment is an open-source server virtualization environment. It is a Debian-based Linux distribution with a modified Ubuntu LTS kernel and allows deployment and management of virtual machines and containers.
This quick tutorial will show you how to activate the Proxmox VE no subscription repository so you can keep your Proxmox server up to date properly.
First you will want to edit the sources.list file in the directory path shown, replace the contents in sources.list with the information listed below.
deb http://ftp.debian.org/debian stretch main contrib # PVE pve-no-subscription repository provided by proxmox.com, # NOT recommended for production use deb http://download.proxmox.com/debian/pve stretch pve-no-subscription # security updates deb http://security.debian.org stretch/updates main contrib
Next add the PUBKEY for this repo to avoid any error messages.
wget http://download.proxmox.com/debian/key.asc apt-key add key.asc
Next, make a backup and remove the enterprise repository from the sources.list.d directory.
cd /etc/apt/sources.list.d/ mv pve-enterprise.list pve-enterprise.list.bak
Now you are able to properly update Proxmox.
apt update apt upgrade
Reboot and you are all set.
